May 13 – Mother’s Day and Family

We spent the early part of Mother’s Day at church. While there, I got a phone call that my Bible Study at the nursing home had been canceled. I had the whole afternoon to write – and the writer’s block continued. My wife didn’t want to go out and eat today because she wanted to go out on Tuesday night to celebrate our anniversary. (Yep…it is! 39 years of marriage on May 15) Instead, she asked me to cook a steak. We had steak, corn on the cob, and salad for dinner. It turned out great. After supper, I finally got back into my writing and met my writing challenge. I got today’s devotional done before church. It was about 450 words.

May 12 – Some Days You Got It…This Wasn’t One of Those Days

Every time I started writing  I ran into writer’s block issues. Working on my devotional. Working on my short story for an anthology. Editing. Nothing seemed to work. I guess those days just happen. The devotional was the only thing I did today. Everything else avoided advancement. Those days happen. Tomorrow, I have a little less pressure. No evening class for Financial Peace. My wife wanted me to cook for Mother’s Day instead of going out, so tomorrow should be more relaxed. So…not a very long update tonight.

May 7 – It’s Not Actually Writer’s Block

It’s more like writer’s tarpit. I’m moving along in my writing, but it’s going a lot slower than I want it to. I keep finishing my devotional writing at least an hour later than I plan to. That throws the rest of the day off. I had to do some chores around the house and then I got some of my challenge writing done before I left for chess clubs and then the ministry at the homeless shelter. I finally finished the challenge writing after I got home. I still have editing to do that I’m not getting done. There’s always tomorrow. I’m tired now and getting to bed earlier than usual! Oh yeah! My current devotional book is now available from Kobo! Waiting on Barnes and Noble to approve me.

April 19 – A Rest, Then Development

Still smarting from the writer’s block yesterday, after I finished my devotional of 582 words, I relaxed. I did some walking, some exercising, some playing and some reading, I finished The Venom Protocols by John Murray McKay. I left a short review and a 4-star rating. There were one or two issues I had with the book, but overall, it’s a good action-packed read. I continued reading through God Dreams. I walked. After a late lunch, I ran an errand trying to get some giveaways for a career fair I’m going to present at in about a week. I failed. Miserably. Then I got my haircut. Very much needed. Rolling around in the back of my mind was how to approach this time travel short story. As I came up with an idea, it fit into the online class I’m taking and I used the first page as my homework. Then, I finished another page and a few lines onto page 3. I had to add/rewrite a lot, but I’m happy with the direction the edits/rewrite is going. Oh, and while I researched something else, I found out that someone had left a good review of my first devotional book. It was nice to see that. Book 3 in the series is about ready to put online. Then I’ll go back and finish editing book 2 and the final re-edit of book 1. I have one step to finish for book 3. Then, I’ll run it through the Amazon publishing process and it will be orderable.

March 23 – Making Progress

I’m making progress. I did my morning devotional, although I was running a bit late, and then got my challenge writing done. Instead of working on the short story that had given me writer’s block, I worked on a different one for a local anthology and edited a little over half today. I should finish tomorrow, although tomorrow will be a busy day. Deadline to submit that work is March 31. Considering how my penchant in the past was to procrastinate, the fact that I’m almost done is amazing.

Today’s Devotional was 470 words: March 23 – Give In to Temptation or Trust and Obey?

The challenge writing was 467 words and I’m never sure how to count editing.
