April 27 – Another Long Trip Day

Today began early with my blood test and then a trip to Houston again – this time for my wife’s 6-month cancer checkup. She got to meet a new Nurse Practitioner, which is always a scary thought. She was happy with the NP and she got a good report. Because if the early start, I didn’t have my devotional written before I left, and I fought fatigue and distractions to finish it by 10:00 PM tonight. While the wife and I had good conversations on the road, no other writing got done. There’s always tomorrow…

April 26 – Back in Time

Today almost was a repeat of yesterday. Thee were some tense times at the house as my wife dealt with some issues. Lately, it seems like every time something seems to happen to give her hope, the rug is pulled out from underneath her – at work and in her doctoral project. Today it was a work issue. (No, don’t ask, I ain’t saying anything more about that.) I had to leave for tutoring today before I finished my devotional. I wasn’t happy with the direction it was taking anyway. I got an idea on my way to tutoring, and I liked it better than what I had been doing. Overall, let me just refer you to the last sentence. I didn’t finish that til after 8:00 PM. When I did my challenge writing, I went back to my Time Travel short story, so I’m back in Time, and got almost 575 words done. I’m making some major changes, but I think it’s going well.

I didn’t even look at the critique of my descriptive writing course. And tomorrow’s gonna be a long day also.

April 25 – I Didn’t Do No Writing Today

Yes, I know that’s bad grammar. Yes, I know that makes me a bad, bad writer – under normal circumstances. I had the chance to participate in a career fair held at a YES prep school in Houston. It was 9 hours on the road for 2 hours of talking with kids and it was worth it! I represented as a Retired Teacher/Author. I had many kids ask about teaching, many about writing. A lot talked wistfully about writing “someday” because they don’t have time now. After a few minutes discussion, they began to realize they could do 400 words a day and their eyes lit up.

I did get my devotional written before I left, so there’s that. I’m too tired to upload the devotional book to Amazon, but that’s happening tomorrow. God is good!

April 24 – It May Be Bad Writing, but At Least It’s Writing

After writing my devotional this morning, I began working on the assignment in my descriptive writing course. I took this course to stretch my writing ability and work on my description. Up until this course, people would comment on my writing and ask me questions about what the person was wearing or what the room looked like. My response was always something like, “I don’t care. What do you WANT it to look like?” I wanted to get to the action. Only, people keep telling me that doesn’t work. So I’m trying to learn. This week’s assignment definitely stretches my comfort zone. And it was obvious from my work. If my teacher sees this title after reading my work, she’ll probably correct me and tell me that instead of “Bad” I should use “Horrible.” But I turned in my assignment. I hope that my teacher doesn’t decide to quit teaching after reading it. Maybe this meme will come to her mind:

If you can think of any other use of this meme, feel free to think it, take it, or use it.

April 23 – Another Day, Another Book Cover, Moving Along

Today was a busy day. You’d think a guy could take it easy when he gains a year, but nope, still a busy day. Devotional was written, then after making arrangements and acknowledging birthday wishes on Facebook, I went to do laundry. I did about half of my writing challenge there while waiting for laundry to finish. (We have an issue with our washing machine and dryer now, so everything’s at the laundromat.) Then, lunch, a bit of work around the house, reviewing the covers for my edited devotional books (!!!), and on to chess clubs. After that, I had a fundraising banquet to attend. No, I didn’t fall for a trap pitch. I knew what it was going into it. This was to support Baptist Student work in Texas. Back when I was in college (TCU) it was called Baptist Student Union. It was there that I met Jesus Christ and gave my life to Him. It was there I met my wife. I owe that ministry for some wonderful things in my life. I’m happy to help support their work. When I got home, I finished my writing challenge. I’m completely reworking my short story involving time travel.
